Known as the ""Pearl of the Indian Ocean"", Sri Lanka has a rich heritage and now home to the 8th wonder of the world- the rock fortress ""Sigiriya"". A tropical Island 22 miles south of the Indian coast, Sri Lankan food is influenced by its spices, indigenous plants, roots, foliage and fruit.
The food is naturally spicy with coriander seed, chili powder as the base for most of it curries. For acidity there are several indigenous fruits that are used such as ""Goraka"" (garciana cambogdia) and Siambala (tamarind). Fresh fish caught from the ocean is a specialty in the island menus.
With the influences from several cultures the most popular items are Biriyani (Pakistan), Wattalappam (Malayan), Lampris (Dutch), Kotthu Rotti (Pakistan), Masla Dosa (Indian).
We at Curry Leaf promise to take you on a Journey around the Island and around the neighboring countries without leaving your seat. So buckle-up and come for the ride of your pallet, where the only limitation will be how much flavor can you enjoy in a day!!!!
